Win a trip or iPod Shuffle |
 |
CobbRides will again offer you a chance to win while
enjoying your walk.
This month is your chance to register and receive a free
pedometer. You will then be ready to walk for prizes
during the April Walk There Challenge.
It is fun, easy and good for you, too.
For each of the four weeks of April, two CobbRides area
walkers who log their steps will be randomly selected to
win an iPod Shuffle.
At the end of the four-week challenge, the individual
who has logged the greatest number of steps in each of
the 11 designated areas will win a getaway to
Callaway Gardens!
Walking improves the air and promotes good health.
More than 25 percent of auto trips are less than one
mile in length. By walking one mile round trip, you can
keep over three pounds of pollutants out of the air we
breathe.

Effective cycling classes |
 |
Increase your confidence and safety on the road.
The Atlanta Bicycle Campaign released its
Spring 2007 Effective Cycling Class Schedule.
Effective Cycling classes teach safe methods of
riding on the road and in traffic by building the skills
and confidence of bike riders.
Classes cover the fundamental principles of riding on
the road effectively, predictably and confidently.
About half the instruction occurs on bikes in parking
lot drills and actual on-road conditions. The course is
based on a nationally recognized curriculum and the
instructors are certified by the League of American
Bicyclists.
For more information on class dates, locations and
times, call 404.881.1112.

The Bike/Ped Plan update is scheduled to be completed
by June 2007.

Safety for Pedestrians |
 |
In 1985, Town Center Mall opened to a sparsely
populated area. There were still signs of pasture and
open fields. KSU was Kennesaw State College with an
enrollment of only 6,800. Traffic was not an issue.
In the fall of 2006, KSU’s enrollment was pushing
20,000 and development in the Town Center area was
nearly 70 percent built out.
The Town Center Area CID, in its effort to improve
transportation, has also focused on the pedestrian.
Emphasis has been placed on better street lighting,
cross walks, bike lanes and sidewalks.
By the end of 2007, every major artery will have
sidewalks; if not on both sides, at least on one side of
the road. There are only a few remaining areas that
have not been completed along Barrett Parkway and
Busbee Parkway.
