        When Work Works

CobbRides and Commuter Club recently established a new partnership with WellStar Health System to help promote the When Work Works Workplace Flexibility Initiative. When Work Works is a project of Families and Work Institute (FWI) sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in partnership with the Institute for a Competitive Workforce, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Twiga Foundation.

As one of only 30 select communities chosen to participate in this national, community-based initiative, Atlanta will enjoy the opportunity to learn, grow and be recognized for innovative business practices in workplace flexibility.

Applications are now open for the 2008 Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. This prestigious award recognizes employers in select communities nationwide that are successfully using flexibility to meet both business and employee goals.

Review the qualifications and simple application and nominate your company today. The deadline for nominations is Monday, April 14.

For more information, contact Karen Mathews, WellStar Health System, at 770.956.6425.

        Flu Season = TeleWork Op
        TeleWork man at desk photo

Winter offers compelling reasons to work from home that many may not have considered.

Health experts say an adult can spread the flu virus one day before symptoms begin to show and from three to seven days afterwards. A cougher deposits germs on workplace surfaces - conference tables, the copy machine and telephones.

TeleWork shields employees from sickness by protecting the teleworker from contagious co-workers, and by containing spread throughout the office.

Security experts point out that the ability for employees to work at home can also help businesses and the government continue to operate during other emergencies, such as terrorist attacks and natural disasters.

An extra benefit of teleworking is ability to function when snow or ice storms make roads impassible, and even when rain or crashes snarl traffic and delay commuters.

CobbRides and The Clean Air Campaign reward commuters who currently drive alone to work when they agree to start using a clean commute alternative such as TeleWork.

        Alternative Ways To Work

CobbRides and The Clean Air Campaign invite you and your managers to a FREE lunch and learn seminar.

Alternative work schedules such as flextime, compressed work weeks (CWW), staggered hours and teleworking can be valuable options to your commute options program.

You will hear a panel of employers share how they have made alternative work schedules successful at their worksites. Your employees can work the same number of hours, spend less time stuck in traffic, are more productive and help improve your bottom line.

Join us for lunch Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to learn more.

        Transportation Update
        cid

Town Center area commuters should be excited to know that the improvements underway at Cobb Place Blvd. and Barrett Parkway will be completed July, 2008.

New left hand turn lanes, a dedicated lane to southbound I-75, lane alignments and traffic signalization should ease the congestion at this intersection.

The project has been a major study and investment of the Town Center Area CID since 2002.
