        Week one Walk Challenge winners
        winning

CobbRides and The Clean Air Campaign have already rewarded the following participants of our April Walk Challenge:

Judy Southworth of KSU and Kiran Singh of TSYS each won an iPod Shuffle in a random drawing from our participants.

There will be more winners each week in April and a grand prize winner of the trip to Callaway Gardens.

Stay tuned and remember to log!

        Watch for the Stroll Patrol

CobbRides has extra rewards for Walk Challenge participants. We will be out each week patrolling for pedometers.

Get caught wearing your pedometer and win instantly.

Our staff will be doing Stroll Patrol throughout the four weeks of Walk Challenge ’07 rewarding those using their pedometers.

We will also have two random drawings each week from our instant winners for $25 gift cards.

So, put on those pedometers, step out during your lunch hour, and watch for our Stroll Patrol.

Last week’s Stroll Patrol instant winners received ice cold water, thermos style mugs, CD cases and more. Dick's Sporting Goods gift cards went to Meredith Raines and Danna Hull, both of ThyssenKrupp Elevator.

        Earning gas cards yet?

Want to earn gas cards? Tired of driving alone?

Start a carpool and earn up to $60 a month in gas cards.

We have carpool rewards programs for two, three, or more person carpools. Log your carpool commute just 15 times in a month to qualify.

Need a carpool partner? CobbRides can do a ridematch to help you find a carpool partner.

        What does your drive cost?
        dollarsign

If you are driving alone, it may be more than you think!

Drive Alone Cost Per Week $76.21
Carpool (2x per week) Cost Per Week $60.96
Carpool (5x per week) Cost Per Week $38.10

Based on metro Atlanta average commute mileage of 29.2 miles each day (source: ARC) and the AAA national average cost per mile of $.52 for vehicle operating and ownership costs when driven 15,000 miles/year.

        Carpooling or vanpooling will:

      • Save time - with access to HOV lanes.
      • Save money - The more you share, the more you save!
      • Share driving duties - It is fun and less stressful.

Do your part to improve our air quality!

Check out the Emissions Calculator to see the benefits of when you pool.

      • Are you walking more?
        walking

Here are some significant benefits that may encourage you.

People living in the most walkable areas of the Atlanta region save an average of 262 gallons of gas each year. They also spend $640 less each year.

Residents of the most walkable areas are 2.4 times more likely to get the level of physical activity recommended by the U.S. Surgeon General for maintaining health.

Every additional hour spent in a car each day translates into a six percent greater chance of being obese.*

Resist the temptation to hop in the car and drive to the other end of the shopping center. Walk to restaurants near your office instead of driving to options farther away. The more you look for ways to work walking into your routine, the easier it will become.

        Scavenger Hunt winner

Jennifer Costello of Heidelberg won a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble for being the first to correctly name the year the Atlanta Journal & Constitution began an editorial with, "Day by day in every way the traffic in and around Atlanta grows worse and worse".

If you guessed, rather than searched CobbRides.com, you probably assumed the answer was a recent year.

No! It was 1968! CobbRides continues to be a partner in looking for solutions to this 40-year old problem. Help us by doing your part. Try ridesharing.

The correct answer was available on our website where you will always find the latest news on metro Atlanta transportation and air. All participants with correct answers were given a gift from CobbRides.

        Congratulations to Jennifer!

        CID pushed for sidewalks
        cid

In 1998, the TCACID contracted with Moreland & Altobelli for a Pedestrian Study of the Town Center area that would include sidewalks and bicycle paths. The study led to $1 million in improvements, funded by the CID, federal, state and local governments.

By the end of 2007, every major street in the Town Center area will have a sidewalk on at least one side of the street. Major intersections have been improved with better cross walks, ADA facilities and street lighting.

Guidelines have been approved by Cobb County to ensure that new developments will include sidewalks and streetlights. In addition, major road improvements will include bicycle lanes, where feasible.
