Bike Racks on CCT Buses
Coming in October
Cobb Community Transit is pleased to announce that bicycle racks will be installed on its entire fleet of buses during September and October. Cobb Community Transit or CCT will be one of the first public transit agencies in the state to provide this type of service to its customers. Cobb County takes pride in being a leader in implementing programs designed to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles on the roadways, which will ultimately improve regional air quality.
In July of 1999, federal money became available for this program. Cobb County competed with other counties/municipalities and was ultimately awarded $30,000 to implement the program utilizing Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds. In addition to outfitting CCTs entire fleet with bicycle racks, free standing loop bike racks will also be installed at the transfer centers and park and ride lots.

When implementing a new program such as this, safety is always a top priority. The bike racks will be mounted on the front of the buses and will hold two bicycles. These racks are designed to allow riders to load their bikes from curbside. Most riders will be able to load and unload their buses in less than 20 seconds, which will minimize any schedule delays. All CCT drivers have received the recommended safety training. Additionally, with a front-loading design, the driver is visually able to monitor activities.
CCT is proud to implement a program designed with the inter-modal commuter in mind. Cobb hopes to make bicycling a more viable means of commuting.

Light Rail Reception

Bob Galante, Cobb DOT, Karl Vittery, member of the Town Center Area CID, Commissioner Woody Thompson and CobbRides Chairman Carl Black stand near graphics of proposed Light Rail.
The rail implementation plan funded by the TCACID and the Cumberland CID was recently previewed by Town Center area stakeholders.
In preparation for future light rail in Cobb County, the Town Center Area CID (TCACID) is laying a foundation for successful ridership. Rail isn't the total answer for our congestion, said CID Chairman, Skip Spann, we must provide sidewalks, shuttles and public transit to support rail.
The TCACID is in the last phase of completing a massive sidewalk program that provides sidewalks on every major artery in the Town Center area. Improvements are currently being done on Barrett Parkway that include the widening of I-75 NB Exit 269. Design and engineering are being completed for improvements on Chastain Road which will include lane alignment, signalization and intersection improvements.
The TCACID has also completed a study on Noonday Creek that would provide pedestrian access to walks, bikeways and parks. Noonday Creek runs through the center of the Town Center Area CID.
The TCACID is a self-taxing district where property owners pay additional property taxes in order to invest in transportation improvements in their area. In the past four years, the TCACID has invested $4 million in studies, design and engineering for projects. MORE on Light Rail
